Finally Done!

Finally done!!!!
Can't believe its been a whole year... well almost a year since I moved to NYC and jumped into the crazy world of design school!!

As you may have noticed, I changed my site picture.... Wanted to try something new for spring. Might leave it on, might take it down... don't know yet

Below are some images from one of my finals done on photoshop and illustrator:

This one's the mood board. Wish I could make the images larger but I can't for some reason. Anyway, It's titled: This spring.... I'm falling in love. And.... I wrote out an excerpt of the Pablo Neruda poem I like. I know, I know I know..... really girlie and lovey dovey but o well...

Here are some images from the collection:

Maxi strapless dress and denim jacket with pleated shoulder detail

Cargo pants and lace tank with crossed straps
Shift dress with lace detailing
Denim vest

Its been a fun but crazy year!! Learnt so much, tons of inspiration, met great people and had some great experiences. Of course there have mos def been some lows...
The sleepless nights, the ridiculous amount of money it costs to buy the never ending supplies; and life getting in the way of school work...

But, I am done. My summer officially started on Monday at 6PM and...

I am sooooo happy!
I want to have the best summer ever! I'll be interning and working which means I'll be getting off around 5ish everyday
with no homework...
And that means...
All the time in the world to have all the fun in the world!!
LOL
Which means...
Exploring the city; taking all the pictures in the world; practicing my drawing; museums; shows; working on a few collections; spending time with friends and loved ones; cooking; sleeping; working out; running a race or two; traveling; movies; flip flops; summer dresses; pool...
 Sky's the limit

And...
To all the 2010 grads...

A BIG CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope you thoroughly enjoy the summer and I wish you success in the next chapter of your lives!

This One's For Mr. Lauren

Ralph Lauren...

"What I do is about living. It is about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of that life around you, from what you wear, to the way you live, to the way you love"
- RL

So... finals have been very intense. A constant cycle of work, more work and trying to get at least 30 minutes of sleep...
But, I only have one more to go so I am a bit more relaxed.

Anyway, I want to talk about my fave designer in the world..
His name is Ralph Lauren and I love him for his authenticity with his lifestyle brand.

I actually fell in love pretty recently. It was September 12th 2008 to be exact. That was the date he showed his spring/summer 2009 collection.

In case you don't remember it, here are some highlights:

The most breathtaking collection! I fell in love and I fell hard. I thought it was absolutely brilliant. I mean, of course I had heard of Ralph Lauren before but I never paid attention to him.

Until this beautiful thing happened. Its the simplicity of it. So clean and refreshing, with the brilliant detailing that makes it stand out. It evokes some kind of emotion, takes you away to this safari in Northern Africa. His collections tell stories and thats why I think he's great.

A year later, his Spring/Summer 2010 collection.... men, he only gets better:

For this one, he takes us back to the 1930's Great Depression. Very Grapes of Wrath. I love the use of rugged denim to represent the working class during the period. It works so well. I love the color palate, very spring and refreshing. The mix of lightweight and heavy fabrics... there is just nothing wrong with this  collection! I also love how he always uses menswear in all his collections yet does it in a way that flatters the female body...

And his latest collection: F/W 2010:

Very Edwardian and Art Nouveau. Dark Palette but has a very romantic feel.

Never went to fashion school and only did 2 years of college studying business.
Always had a love for mens suits and worked selling mens ties to classmates to raise money to buy fine tailored suits for himself.

Fast forward to 1967, he opens up his first store selling neckties under the name 'Polo'. Then, 1970, started his womens line selling suits tailored in men's styles

Fast forward, fast forward fast  forward

And now, he has built this empire. He does it all! Womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, fragrance, accessories, household items....

With brands that reach every age group and price range. He's got his black label, blue label, Purple Label, Lauren, RLX, Polo Ralph Lauren

Club Monaco, Chaps, American Living, Rugby...

and of course...

Collection

Pretty amazing. And, with all these products, brands and licenses... everything with the RL name stays authentic and truly RL.

His collections that come down the runway always tell a story, stay authentic and has historical inspirations. His brands, labels, licensees and all bring you into this lifestyle that he created. Always elegant, classy, sophisticate. Simple with very close attention to details.

Although he is a classic American designer, he takes inspiration from all over the globe. From historical America, to Paris to Africa. He is definitely an inspiration

Yup, Ralph Lauren is the best and is mos def here to stay!!!

couldn't think of a better place to intern this summer!!

Illustrator

This is interesting...

Trying hard not to get sick. I've been taking my vitamins, eating tons of fruits and veggies and drinking tons of water.
I'm basically afraid of junk food. I feel like one bite at this point will get me sick.

I've been here at the computer lab for 12 hours now...

Yesterday I was in school for 22 hours

and the night before,

20....
which means here all day and night, quick trip home for a one hour nap, shower and back again

But the interesting thing about it is:
Besides my aching neck, I really like this. I mean, its really enjoyable when you don't think about the million and 3 things left to do and the lack of time...

But I'm actually feeling illustrator now. I'm about to be a pro at flat sketches!!! Getting there!!!

Drawing
headphones in and music really blasting...
listening to pandora and have been switching around the stations.

started with Q-tip station (really, really good) I only changed cuz I've been on that station for too many hours.

So then I did Gaga, then hanson, then lil wayne, and now I'm at Drake....

holding myself from dancing and singing/rapping at the top of my lungs....
I mean, I'm here listening to Wayne
It's like a party!!

Also,
The cool thing about this computer lab
You look around at other people's screen and you see some really amazing things!
Photography, graphic design, fashion, video editing
its great!

Anyway, Here's a bit  of what I've been working on for 80 million and 3 hours...

I couldn't spend this much time doing anything else in the world!!!
